The videos are nice and clear and the instructions aren’t too difficult to follow. I only wish you had numbered the videos 1-? or Part 1-Part? so I wouldn’t have to search for the next section and my “tutorial” had a nice smooth transition. Keep up the good work!

You may have made a scarf, but you didn’t do it using standard crochet stitches, because that’s NOT what she’s teaching here.

I think this person should say “this is how I make my hat”, “this is the stitch I use”. Once she starts using established crochet terms, and established crochet stitches, she should use the correct terms, to prevents confusion to people just learning the technique.

This stitch is not a double crochet. It is an extended single. She’s also yarning over backwards.

This is not double crochet.

Nice presentation, but info is totally wrong.

If you can do a better video, then go right ahead.

What she’s doing is called an “extended” single crochet. This is a single crochet since she doesn’t yarn over before beginning the stitch, but she does add the extra step of pulling through the one loop before yarning over and pulling through the last two loops. This “extended” type stitch can be used with double and treble crochet as well to add some extra height and an additional twist.

Her directions are good and she explains it simply…the problem is, she doesn’t do the yarn over first on the double crochet which confused me a bit. Maybe it’s just a different technique?

What kind of double crochet is that? Is this a new way to do stitches?

STEVIE on 12 November, 2009 at 4:18 am #

FORREST

Yeah, right? I was thinking isn’t she supposed to yarn over, THEN put it in the hole?

she definitely did do the double crochet weird… That really threw me off because I haven’t been crocheting that long, but I know enough that wasn’t quite right. These videos are OK, but it took me quite a while to figure out exaclty where to go, so many things you are doing are too hard to see in this video because of your angle and the color of yarn.

She did this doublecrochet wrong. You have to yarn over before you start the stitch, then pull through 2 then 2 again. I have been crocheting since I was 8 yrs old….that was 50 years ago.
