The book I have says (for starting the next round) to slip stitch to the top of the turning chain on the first dc, and then slip stitch again to the corner, ch 3 for the 1st dc, etc. But when you have finished the last round do you slipstitch to the corner again? It doesn’t say to, but mine never seem to line up straight otherwise.

Yes, on the last round, you slip stitch to the corner. That way, you are not going higher than the last round, and not adding more stitches, just joining the last real crochet stitch to the first. Also, this way you can tie it off nicely.
