After studying fine art in college and doing the “starving artist” thing for years, he began crocheting for charity. During this time with the charity group, he became known as “The Crochet Dude”, which then led to the launch of his wildly popular blog, www.thecrochetdude.com. Since then, Drew has published numerous patterns in magazines and compilation books, and his own full-length books, has appeared as a guest on various TV programs, and is currently the crochet expert on the hit PBS show “Knit and Crochet Today.” Drew lives in Houston, Texas, with his cats Chandler and Cleocatra.

I crochet items for nursing homes, hospitals and the aspca. Only I can’t afford to buy all the yarn needed for these projects, So I need to find sources for free yarn to make all these goodies that I hand out through the year.

I’ve just started to learn how to crochet and im getting really annoyed. I tried making a hat, but after a few circles around, it folds in A LOT (and it shouldn’t)
and im also crocheting too tight, but don’t know how to make looser loops. Its difficult to re-insert the crochet needle because the loops are too small/tight.
What are some helpful tips? I really want to pick up this hobby, but I always seem to have some issues with it.
